Social Activities

Officially the Clubhouse closes at 8 p.m. in the summer and 5.30 p.m. in the winter, but it is frequently alive with the sound of music, laughter and applause long after that. Internal competitions in the summer are often followed by a fork supper, and many Friday evenings in the wintertime are given over to social events of one sort or another, including bridge.

Revues, cabarets, plays and theme parties

In recent years we have held hugely popular Social Weeks in November. They have ranged from Revues including singing, dancing and comedy, Murder Mysteries, Short Plays and even pantomimes (Oh yes we have!). Those who want to attend have to be quick off the mark when the list goes up, as every ticket is sold within days, and often there is such a clamour from disappointed applicants that extra performances have to be arranged. Usually run over 5 consecutive nights, we generally sell out the 50 tickets per performance.

Sometimes the presentation is in a nightclub style, with tables scattered around and food and drink consumed more or less continuously, and at other events it will be more of a theatre style.

Bridge

Every third or fourth Friday during the winter months, a group of members get together and occupy a dozen or more tables to play Chicago. A hot supper is provided to fortify the players during the evening.

Other Social Events

General knowledge quizzes have been popular in the past and our own versions of television games such as Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, Pointless and Call My Bluff have enjoyed excellent support from the members. We even have our own version of Masterchef where members will cook up some culinary delights for other members who judge their efforts.

Annual Men's Dinner & Pro League Dinner

With the extended lounge area, we are able to accommodate higher numbers at the Annual Dinners when Lizzie, Emilie and their team regularly provide a superb meal for over 80 members.

Annual Summer Event

The Summer Event is traditionally held on a July evening, either in the clubhouse or in marquees on the lawns. Recent events have seen us holding a "Glyndebourne Style" Operatic Evening with picnic in the marquee, tribute bands (ABBA and Queen) and before that a Magic Night with various magicians and an excellent buffet.
