Running out of things to say.......

There are only so many ways to keep delivering bad news, and I feel like I am exhausting them all! It will be no surprise to anyone when I say we are closed for the whole weekend. Bar and catering will be on reduced hours from 10am to 3pm.

The photo of the 18th above was taken on the one nice day of the week, Wednesday I think it was, when I was on a fairly depressing course walk...... since then it hasn't stopped raining. This morning I had a meeting with the General Managers of Crowborough and Ashdown, and whilst it doesn't really help to know that we are all in the same position, it was at least good to catch up, share ideas, and remind each other that by the time Spring comes around, this weather will hopefully be forgotten.

We even had a group of 8 heading to Littlestone Links course on Sunday for a well-deserved game of golf, and Littlestone have closed the course for the weekend....... unheard of I would think.

The picture does at least show that there is still the occasional bit of blue sky. The other good news has been that my journeys to and from work have been in daylight this week - showing that Spring is not too far away.

It will stop raining soon..... I'm sure of it!

Director at Work

Huge thanks to Paul Fairbairn, who has put in a 40-hour week in the kitchen. He has stripped out and made good a huge area, ready for the builders to start next week. This will save us both time and money on the job, both of which are in short supply!

This really does go above and beyond what is expected of a Director (even though he has secretly loved every minute of it!)

Thank you from all of us Paul.

Driving Nets

Last year's Club Day raised money for some new Practice Nets. Pictured on the left are the relatively new nets at the Addington, and ours will be based on something similar.

The money was raised by last year's Captains Robin & Carol, and Robin will be in charge of the project, working closely with Cub member Adrian Gander.

2026 matches

As ever, we have a number of men's and mixed friendly matches at great local courses that members can sign up to, either in the match book on the roundel, which will be available shortly, or online. If you're unsure how to sign up online, please click here to view a simple guide.

Tuesday Boys

Having been away to ski mid-January for just one week, the Doc managed to miss the only Tuesday to see play during the whole month. Sadly, as we all know, the rain has been almost continuous since then, and  now looks set to continue well into February. Despite the course and club kitchen closures this week, well over a score of hardy friends gathered for a light lunch in the bar this Tuesday. Our grateful thanks to Lizzy, Linda and Axl for keeping us all fed and watered. It was also lovely to catch up with both Terence Coghlin and Dick Marshall, both very regular past Tuesday boys. We wish Dick all the best with his upcoming operation.

With just one round of Tuesday Boy competition completed so far this year, the race for the first to reach 1,000 TB points, and to the Kerry Cup for the best overall average, remains neck and neck, with the winning pair from Tuesday 20th still leading tied on 36 points. Congratulations once again to Gary Morris and Jack Wheale. We all look forward to chasing them down, once we are back out on the course. In the meantime we're trying to keep positive, and enjoyed Mat Fitzpatrick's super opening round in the WM Phoernix Open on Thursday night. Easy game, really!

All best wishes, and we look forward to meeting up together again for lunch this Tuesday 10th, assuming the rain continues to keep the course unplayable.

Martin Rogers and Peter Keith-Lucas.
