Happy New Year!
Happy New Year to all members and your families.
Unfortunately I start this year with bad news, as the overnight snow last night has meant we were closed today, and will remain closed tomorrow (there is snow sat on the greens and no chance of them thawing with the predicted overnight temperatures). Matt will come in tomorrow afternoon to have a look and see if there is any chance for Sunday. We will keep you posted, but he currently thinks it unlikely.
With the course being closed, we will open the clubhouse from 10am - 3pm tomorrow (Saturday), and if the course is closed on Sunday we will do the same.
The pro shop is open as normal.
Thanks to those of you who have sent in photos recently of some stunning winter golf landscrapes - this week, they are all courtesy of Hamish Porter.

Cut Price Calendars
As we are now into 2026 we have a few Piltdown calendars to shift. The suppliers sent us a few free ones to make up for the slight error of printing the same photo twice. Rather than throw them away, we would rather get something for the Captains' Charities - therefore the last few are on sale for less than half price - just £7 each. £3.50 to Annie's charity, and £3.50 to Tsol's.
Please purchase from the bar or the office.

SLOGGs and Cyril Blake Seniors Knock-Out Competitions 2026
In 2026, Piltdown Golf Club will be competing in the SLOGGs (Sussex League of Gentlemen Golfers) and Cyril Blake inter-Club Knock Out competitions. Naturally, we want to field the strongest teams that we can. So, if you are 55 or over (or will be during the year), and might be able to play, please email Céline, and we will then include you in our requests for players for individual matches.

Mike Haynes is Piltdown’s Captain and Match Manager for the SLOGGs competition. Peter Keith-Lucas is the Piltdown Captain and Match Manager for the Cyril Blake / Gilbert Print Plate.
Both SLOGGs and Cyril Blake are handicap knock-outs, each requiring 5 pairs. SLOGGs plays as four-ball better ball, each team comprising one lower handicapper (5.5 to 12.4) and one higher handicapper, (12.5 to 20.4), played from the white tees. The Cyril Blake plays as Foursomes from the yellow tees, with a maximum handicap of 28.
Teams defeated in the first or second rounds of either competition then play in a Plate competition. Semi-finals and Finals are played at neutral grounds.
We know the dates of matches, as below, but the draw for opponents has yet to be made.

CLUBHOUSE CLOSED ON THURSDAY & FRIDAY
We have an electrical upgrade going on this week, which means that the clubhouse will be closed all day on Thursday, and up to about lunchtime on Friday.
The toilets will be available (not the disabled one, which runs on electricity) but the clubhouse will be quite dark, so please proceed with caution if you need to come in.
This means there will be no ladies bridge on Thursday afternoon, but we aim to be back open with food cooked ready for Friday night's bridge.
Pro Shop will be open as normal.
If anything changes, we will keep you posted.
