What an Effort!

Some of your hard-working bar and catering team are pictured above following a monumental effort over the last few weeks.

Starting with the 4 nights of the Revue at the end of November, and finishing yesterday evening with the Christmas Carols and Dinner, they have been working non-stop to keep lots of you fed and watered. In amongst it all we have also hosted Resident Association dinners, Rotary dinners, and lots of smaller, private lunches.

I am very proud of them all, and the excellent food they manage to serve up again and again. Huge thanks to Lizzie and Emily for leading them all so well.

Can I remind members of our Christmas opening times. We will close the clubhouse at 2pm on Christmas Eve, and we will remain closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. We are also closed on New Year's Day. Members can play golf if the course is open - please book times as normal. You can also bring free guests on those 3 days.

9 HOLES OPEN THIS WEEKEND

We had nearly 35mm of rain in 24 hours on Thursday, which has left the course saturated. However, we know many of you are keen to play over the weekend, so the team are in the middle of a big clean up operation to allow us to open the Inner 9 for the weekend. It will be carry only, and fairway mats compulsory. The planned scramble will go ahead over 9 holes.

Clearly it is very wet, so I wouldn't advise bringing guests, but if you do, they can play 9 holes for £15.

Christmas at the club

Nothing dampens the ladies’ spirits!
The Festive Foursomes may have been cancelled because of the downpour yesterday, but the ladies still gathered in force to enjoy coffee, Baileys and nibbles in the clubhouse. A good time was had by all!

In the evening, it was our choir's turn to take centre stage for our popular Christmas carols and supper event. Another super evening in the clubhouse.

Before that on Tuesday, the Tuesday Boys gathered after a lovely round in the sun for a delicious Christmas lunch and the presentation of some of their 2025 trophies. This was Nigel Hawes' last event as Tuesday Boys organiser. He spent three years at the helm, serving with unfailing commitment and good humour. His efforts have helped maintain not just a well-run programme, but the friendly spirit and camaraderie that make the Tuesday Boys such an important and enjoyable part of club life.

As Nigel passes the baton to Peter Keith-Lucas and Martin Rogers, we would like to give our genuine thanks and appreciation for all he has done over the past three years. His contribution has been significant and is very much appreciated by the club and his fellow members.

Pro League 2nd round

Who knew it was possible to take photos as good as these with an iPhone? Many thanks to David Cannon for these magnificent shots, taken on Saturday during the 2nd round of the Pro League.

Thank you to all of you who have contributed so generously so far, and I know the staff will be very grateful.

Maybe some of you may have forgotten or not had time in the mad run-up to Christmas but there is still time left. I would like to think that we might get 100% response to this appeal as it is the only opportunity we get to show our appreciation to the staff who are involved  in the running of this unique club.

The tronc will close at the end of the month, so please make your donation as soon as possible.

A Happy Christmas to you all,

Brenda Allvey

Course update

Work has been progressing well across several areas of the course despite challenging  winter maintenance conditions.

Clearance work has continued on the driving range, improving both presentation and usability. In addition, construction of the new steps began on the 15th, while the steps at the 7th and 11th have been fitted with artificial grass surfacing. This has been installed to improve grip and reduce the risk of slipping, particularly during wet and muddy winter conditions.

Clearance is now completed around the 2nd blue tee. This section will now require levelling and enlargement to complete the improvement, which will be scheduled as ground conditions allow.

Further clearance work also commenced on the 12th, where the team have been working in the heather on the left-hand side near the green. They will all be relishing a couple of dry days indoors over Christmas!
