The Climate

You can't be considered a true Englishman unless you love talking about the weather - however it can get a bit tedious! We have had some serious rain in the last 3 or 4 days - and this does seem to be the pattern in recent years. No rain for long periods, and then a prolonged bout of torrential downpours.

Sadly, there is a lot more rain forecast in the coming days, so the chances of playing are very slim. We will definitely be closed all weekend, and hope that some of the predicted rain doesn't arrive, and we might be able to get up and running again next week.

Don't forget, that means we are running slightly reduced hours in the clubhouse on Saturday and Sunday - both bar and catering will be operating from 10am to 3pm.

Damage on 7th green

We are sorry to report that a vandal on a quad bike spent some time on the 7th green between Wednesday Night and Thursday morning.

Unfortunately, not much can be done right away, as trying to repair the damage while the green is soaking wet would only exacerbate matters, but our greenkeeping team will do their best to deal with it as soon as feasible.

2026 diaries

They are here! I know this brings great excitement to many members! Ask for one at the bar or in the office.

When coming in to collect one over the weekend, why not stay for a bar snack or at least a drink.

Please can I ask that you take time to have a quick glance at our sponsors and adverts, and please try and support them if you can.

2026 Piltdown calendar

Our 2026 calendar has arrived, with all proceeds going to the Captains’ charities, the British Heart Foundation and Lord's Taverners: you get to spruce up a wall while supporting two great causes. It also features major events in the Club's calendar to help you get your season organised.

A quick apology: in a moment of organisational genius, Céline managed to use the same photo for both June and August. No Christmas bonus for her, and she has actually run off to Bordeaux for the weekend to escape. The good news? It’s probably the best picture in the whole thing, so you get to enjoy it twice. Has she ever told you about the time when she worked as a translator for Men's Health Magazine and got Michael Jordan confused with Michael Jackson.... if not, do please ask her about it, she'll be delighted!?!

Thanks for your understanding and your support. Calendars are available from the office while stocks last, please reply to this email if you'd like one, or pop into the bar over the weekend.
