Well Done Green Team

Another very tough week for the boys and girl out on the course this week. Course Maintenance is always a hard one. Long Days, and always the odd breakdown along the way (hopefully mechanical and not mental!)

The good news is they have managed to finish all the greens and approaches in the week, so as from tomorrow we are back up and running as normal with 18 holes open. There are a few tees to finish next week, but that won't affect play too much.

The course will obviously take a bit of time to recover - so over the weekend if you bring a guest to play then there is no charge to them. From Monday onwards for the next few days members guest fee will be £25 instead of £40. There will be no other green fees for the early part of next week.

The greens should recover very quickly as we have done a less intrusive maintenance on them than in the past.

As always we appreciate your understanding and patience.

KITCHEN DEEP CLEAN TOMORROW

Whilst the course is quiet we are taking the opportunity to carry out a full deep clean of the kitchen tomorrow (Saturday 2nd) so there will be no food available. Back up and running as normal on Sunday. The bar will still be open.

Super Sophie

Congratulations to Sophie Jones on her 3rd place finish in the Sussex Girls Championship at the Dyke last Monday.

Her gross scores of 79 & 81 were also good enough to finish 2nd in the Under-15s category.

2 days later she had another good score in the Walton Heath Junior Open which has seen her handicap drop even further to 6.4

Sussex Boys

The Boys championship was played on the same day as the girls, and Piltdown had 6 boys in the top 20. The best of our group was Ethan Randall who finished 5th, closely followed by Jack Wills who finished in 7th.

As I write this Oscar Tollit is sitting in joint first place after 36 holes of the North of England Under 14s championship. His first 2 rounds of 73 & 75 are good enough to get him out in the final group today. Go well Oscar! (pictured here following success in last years County champs)

Toby Cannon continues his good form following the Club Champs and is now down to 2.2

A great performance from many of our junior members, and shows how well they are doing under the watchful eye of Piers Heagerty, and guidance from Jason, James and George.

Pyecombe Pitcher

Good luck to Derek Elphick and team who tomorrow travel to Cowdray in the Pyecombe Pitcher, before playing their final group game at home on 30th August against East Sussex National. A couple of decent results will push us into the play offs.

Congratulations Richard & Joanna

No one like to lose a knock-out match, but at least my partner Julie Scala and I can say we lost to the eventual winners - for the second year in a row!

Last year we lost late on to Gilly & Nigel Williams who went on to lift the Henry Longhurst Trophy, this year we lost in the semi-final to Richard Charnley & Joanna Greenstreet who then went on to beat Charlie Dawson & Penny Malloy in the final last week. It sounded like it was a good match - although rumour has it the 15th was halved in 7 - and rumour also has it that the men were definitely to blame!

I must say Julie & I had our chances to win both matches, I think we were leading both of them after 14 holes - so next year we will try to do better - if Julie will have me of course. It's amazing how all the games seem to come down to 17 or 18, showing that the handicap system really does work very well.

Well done Richard and Joanna - enjoy your success.
