16th May 2025 Newsletter

What a Week.

An amazing early Summer week of weather has led to a very busy Piltdown. We prefer it this way, it's always great to have a buzz about the place.

We have finally had a bit of rain - not much, but just enough to start to get a little bit of much needed growth.

Congratulations to Anthony Beard who scored his first hole-in-one at Hardelot last week, I'm sure the celebrations continued well into the evening.

Well played Charlie Pountney who won the first white tee medal of the year with a nett 65 in the PGA Trophy.

Ladies' Spring Meeting

This event was played over 2 days last week. Congratulations to all the 2025 winners!

From left to right: Sue Adams (Peg McMillan Trophy), Aileen Greenfield (Finch Noyes), Meg James (President's Cup), Moira Taylor (Jubilee Salver), Wendy Masters (Robertson Cup) and Hilary Humphry-Baker (Waterstone Cup).

Hamilton Russell Mixed Foursomes

Well played Harvey and Jo Linehan, who won this trophy for the fourth time in four decades! They narrowly beat Dirk and Ann Dixon and Piers and Julia Heagerty.

Harvey is now busy practicing as he has seen a different name on the trophy featuring 5 times!

George's very first putting clinic went very well, with lots of positive feedback and enquiries from other members, so he will be running another one in the not so distant future - watch this space!

You may have also seen George on our Facebook page earlier in the week telling everyone how to play the first hole. More of that to come through the season.

Good Luck Teams

Good luck to the Men's teams representing Piltdown in County events over the next few days. Saturday sees us facing off against Cowdray Park in the Wellesley Scratch Trophy 2nd round over 36 holes at home. Peter Barret the captain is giving a debut to 13 year old Oscar Tollitt. Play well Oscar!

On the same day our handicap team led by Anthony Beard are away at Sedlescombe in an 18 hole fourball match, and then on Monday our Cyril Blake team host Selsey in the 2nd Round of the foursomes event. Team Captain Peter Keith-Lucas is confident of a strong performance.

Play well everyone.

I am on my way up to Birmingham to play in the Golf Club Secretaries final at Blackwell on Sunday and Monday, so let's hope there is life in the old dog!

Juniors' QTour and Drive Chip Putt

31 juniors from Haywards Heath, Crowborough and Piltdown took part in last Sunday’s Q tour.

There was a great atmosphere as always, and it was good to see several juniors playing their first competitive golf on the course.
