Easter is Upon Us

Have you all been out trying to emulate Rory - hopefully how he played the 15th and 17th,  not how he played the 1st or the 13th...... What a great event it was.

Out on the course, the staff have been busy for the last couple of weeks dealing with the backlog of jobs created by the wet winter. (I still can't believe how dry it now is) Hopefully you will notice some of the things like the new 150 yard poles, the replacement bell, the new flags and pins, (which has also allowed us to replace some of the range flags with the ones brought in from the course), the repaired manhole cover on 13th, the fence post holes filled in on 13th and much more. We have also replaced the driving range mats with some new, springier options, so no excuse not to practice!

We appreciate there is still plenty to do, but rest assured the team are working hard to catch up. We are having the white tee posts completely renovated by Ben Todd, and we have new red stakes that Chris Spencer and I will be putting out next week. We have had sleepers on order for some time which have finally arrived, so steps will be being repaired and replaced very soon.

We have managed to get some water out on the fairways, but have now brought the hoses in for the Easter weekend. Still need a bit of real rain and a bit more warmth to get some growth out there.

Those of you playing over the weekend in the Easter Trophy competitions - play well, have fun, and enjoy yourselves.

Ross Trophy

The annual Ross Trophy was played on Sunday. The two team event played in Anthony’s memory combines a member of the men's Scratch Team or of the ladies' section and a junior in foursomes pairings.

With some close matches, the team captained by Ryan Wills convincingly won 4-1 overall. Their photo will be in the Ross Trophy frame until 2026!

Many thanks to Peter, Julia and the Ross family for their ongoing support of this event and the junior section.

Lewis/Taylor Trophy

This popular Easter event started with today's ladies' Stableford, which won was by Joy Mayall with 41 points, nipping Julia Heagerty on countback! Well done Joy, and good luck to everyone who will be playing over the Easter weekend.

Sussex Ladies Scratch Foursomes

Piltdown is honoured to be hosting this event for the first time next weekend - from Friday to Sunday. Clare Strong and Becs Dawson are representing Piltdown. They have a bye in the 1st round on Friday, and on Saturday morning they are playing Chichester. We wish them very good luck.

Can all members be aware that these ladies are all good players, and are playing foursomes, so will be playing quite quickly. If you happen to be out there and holding them up, please let them through when you can.

Photo competition

Renowned golf photographer and Piltdown member, David Cannon, has been honoured with a Masters Major Achievement Award in recognition of his 40th coverage of the Masters Tournament. Thanks to him for sharing some of his amazing shots with us (see below, please do not re-use them).

To mark this remarkable milestone, we’re delighted to announce a photo competition. Simply submit a photograph taken on the course at Piltdown by the end of May, and David himself will choose the winning entry. The subject is entirely up to you — let your imagination run free. To enter, email your creation to Céline.

The prize? Free range balls for a year.
